Symbol & Flag Origin
The Symbol was originated and registered initially as the Equality Beyond Gender symbol for Gay Marriage, then expanded with the movement to include Same-Sex Marriage, and even further to include the more mainstream and widely accepted, Marriage Equality - to finally incorporating in celebration, Marriage Pride.

The symbol and flag were created by designer P. Allen Prete, with the intended focus being on the development of an emblem which could be placed upon a canvas that would represent Equality Beyond Gender for Gay and Same-Sex Marriage in every state and country - a symbol and flag for all to recognize and to support - universally.

The idea was conceived in 2008 while Peter was living in Sweden - the same year Euro-Pride was being hosted in Stockholm. During that time period the news centered on the events that were to take place in Sweden that year, simultaneously the news regarding the United States was dominated by the States embattled in Marriage Equality; California, Maine, New Jersey, and New York-all were to fail-fueling inspiration to create.

Initially labeled Live Love Rings, the first ideas sketched were amusing steps forward creatively. With an emphasis on simplicity the first evolution of the symbol varied dramatically and was quickly narrowed to encompass two silver rings, the Pride colors, and a white background. Drafts and revisions through 2008 and 2009 led to the final versions of the symbol composed of two gradient rings, silver/Original or gold/Official, interlocked with the six primary Pride colors within, and placed upon a white background or canvas - flag.
In 2012 and 2013, a second evolution and revisions of the design were completed to incorporate an identity/logo and to modernize the symbol design. For the logo, the interlocking rings were made black and the gradient element for dimensional effect was removed, a white inner rule to surround the Pride colors was added, and the Pride colors were made pastel hues. The Original and Official versions of the design had the gradients removed from the interlocking rings and the inner white rule outlining the Pride colors was incorporated. The latest evolution and revisions afforded greater versatility for garment, flag, and product enhancements, yet each evolution is utilized today given manufacturing and production advancements and capabilities.
